Insurance Company Facilitates Dialogue and Celebrates African-American Contributions
Skyward Specialty’s demonstrates its core value of Engaging in Inclusioin by supporting events and activities that support topics and organizations that mean the most to its employees. In observance of Black History Month, the Ethnically Diverse Group of Employees (EDGE), Skyward Specialty’s employee resource group focused on diversity and inclusion of peoples of color, hosted an internal Black History Month Forum where five employees shared their thoughts on celebrating celebrate African-American history and culture, while also providing an opportunity for dialogue and reflection on the ongoing pursuit of equality and justice.
The Black History Month Forum, held virtually for all Skyward Specialty team members, brought together employees,for rich discussions about the African-American experience, its valuable contributions to society, and the importance of inclusion in the workplace and beyond.
Forum participants include Yvonne Planter Hill, claims director; Havis Wright, senior vice president of inland marine; Gary Lovelace, vice president of occupation accident; Jerome Wilson, regional vice president of professional liability; and Kohen Allen, team lead of claims operations.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from moderator Dijana Ivanovski, executive assistant, who emphasized the significance of acknowledging and honoring the diverse cultures and achievements that shape the fabric of society.
Forum speakers spoke passionately about the Company’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to bring their whole selves to work. During the one hour session, the speakers shared their insights and personal stories, shedding light on the struggles, triumphs, and contributions of African-Americans throughout history. They discussed the importance of Black history education, the impact of systemic racism, and the power of unity in dismantling barriers and creating a more equitable future.
Skyward Specialty’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion extends beyond this event. This forum was just one of many efforts aimed at celebrating diversity and championing the voices and stories that have shaped history.
