At Skyward Specialty, our commitment to helping others is central to who we are as a Company. This September, our employees once again demonstrated that commitment, coming together to honor the 25th anniversary of September 11 through service and generosity.
September 11, 2001, remains the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history. Four hijacked commercial planes struck the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, claiming nearly 3,000 lives, including hundreds of first responders who ran toward danger to save others. For many of us in the insurance industry, the tragedy was also deeply personal, as we lost colleagues, friends, and loved ones in the attacks and the collapse of the towers. This year marked 25 years since that day, an anniversary that called for both remembrance and meaningful action.
In recognition, the Skyward Foundation launched a giving campaign in support of two organizations carrying forward the legacy of that day. Tunnel to Towers Foundation, established in honor of FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families, and builds specially adapted homes for veterans with catastrophic injuries. 9/11 Day, founded in memory of volunteer firefighter Glenn Winuk, has grown into the nation’s largest annual day of charitable service, directing resources toward meal-packing initiatives and grants supporting schools and youth organizations nationwide.
To launch the campaign, the Skyward Foundation contributed $2,500 to each organization, and through its Matching Gifts Program, committed to double-matching every employee donation. As a result of the collective generosity of our employees and the Skyward Foundation, the campaign raised a total of $10,844 in honor of the lives lost and the heroes who responded on September 11.
This campaign reflects the values that define our organization. Established in 2020, the employee-led Skyward Foundation directs resources toward causes that matter most to our team, and initiatives like this one exemplify that mission in action.
